SPECIAL INTERESTS.

Sept 2003 – Sept 2005

MSc course in Medical Ultrasound at University of Portsmouth

I have completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound (Sept 2004) and have now successfully completed a Post Graduate Diploma qualification in Medical Ultrasound (Abdominal, General, Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in 2006. I plan to spend a further year completing a Masters qualification in Medical Ultrasound at the University of Portsmouth. My chosen research topic is -Comparing the effects of 4D versus 2D Ultrasound in encouraging Mothers who smoke in Pregnancy to stop smoking. This encompasses the newest technology, enabling me to learn a new skill [4D scanning] and apply it to a topic which is highly relevant to ante-natal Primary Care and enhance the G.P. role in primary prevention of maternal and fetal smoking related ill health effects.

As part of CME[special interest] I have attended various courses on Medical Ultrasound in addition to attending the University MSC lecture programme.I have attended HyCoSy Course under Prof Killick at Hull[Dec04],Fetal Medicine Foundation Nuchal Translucency Screening Theory Course[Dec04],BMUS Manchester 2004 and 205 Annual Conferences,DVT Study day Swansea[Nov2005] ,Advanced Gynae Ultrasound Study Day ,in addition to various short courses run by the Dept of Radiography Education at University of Portsmouth 04/05.In 2005 I have completed an 11 day part time I.T.Skills Course, run by Surrey Health Informatics Service, covering the following: Basic Computer Skils, Word, Excell, Powerpoint, Mail Merge and File Management.

I also regularly assist on Ultrasound teaching courses and the MSc programme in my role as Honorary Lecturer and Ultrasound Demonstrator at The University of Portsmouth, Dept of Radiography.I have assisted on a 4 day course in Inverness[Jan 06] for the Scottish Association of Community Hospitals to teach ultrasound to rural based General Practitioners in Scotland.

I hope to become a GP who uses diagnostic ultrasound on a daily basis to make more accurate and efficient assessments of my patients and also provide a first class service for both male and female patients in a primary care setting.
